The Story Of Scout:
Scout was found by animal control officers roaming the streets in Monterey county. He was both fearful and aggressive and thus, very difficult to catch. It was obvious from his physical condition and temperament that he had been seriously abused and neglected. Due to his dangerous aggression toward both dogs and humans, the "experts" at the shelter considered him to be untrainable. Consequently, he was tattooed and scheduled to be euthanized. However, on the DAY BEFORE he was to be put down, Heidi and Dave of Portola Valley, Ca, were able to convince the authorities at the shelter to allow them to take Scout home under very special circumstances. They were told that they would have to keep him away from other people and that they would never be able to take Scout to a dog park or public place.
They took Scout home and provided him with a very safe and loving home where he was able to play in a large secured area on their property. However, it was obvious that Scout had serious issues. He would growl, bark and even try to attack strangers and passing cars. They worked with other dog trainers and professional dog walkers but the problems only increased. They were eventually referred to Jim of A Darn Good Dog! Jim's approach was completely different from any other trainer. Through his calm, stable, confident, and reassuring demeanor, Jim was able to quickly earn Scout's trust and respect.
Jim worked consistently with Scout and was able to help Scout overcome his fear of cars, other dogs, and strangers. Scout now happily enjoys regular walks along busy retail city streets as well as outings to Stanford Mall in Palo Alto. He also visits various dog parks where he now actually looks forward to meeting all the new dogs. He plays fetch with a ball and has a great time running and playing with all of his doggie friends. Thanks to the incredible compassion and patience of Dave and Heidi, Scout now has a wonderful life. Scout is yet another example that with Jim's help.... ANY dog can become....
